EASTON — A new Medical Director has been named of the Birthing Center at University of Maryland Shore Regional Health, announces William Huffner, MD, MBA, FACEP, FACHE, the organization’s chief medical officer and senior vice president of Medical Affairs. Aisha Siddiqui, MD, FACOG, local obstetrician and gynecologist, recently assumed the position, which provides medical direction of patient care at the Birthing Center, located at UM Shore Medical Center at Easton.

A board certified physician with the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Siddiqui earned her undergraduate degree from University of Illinois at Chicago. After obtaining her Doctor of Medicine from Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica, she completed a residency and internship with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Oakwood Hospital and Medical Center in Dearborn, Mich. During her time at Oakwood, Dr. Siddiqui held the position of Chief Resident of the department.

A Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG), Dr. Siddiqui is fluent in English, Hindi and Urdu. She worked in private practice in Illinois until 2014, when she relocated to Easton. Dr. Siddiqui currently sees patients at University of Maryland Community Medical Group – Women’s Care, at 508 Idlewild Ave. in Easton. At the practice, she and her fellow providers – Barbara Kierns, MD, and Certified Nurse Midwives Rebecca Ailstock, Michell Jordan and Brittany Krautheim – offer expertise in pregnancy and childbirth; annual well woman examination; breast and cervical cancer screening; colposcopy; initial evaluation of urinary incontinence; preventive health screening; menopausal management; family planning resources; and sexually transmitted disease screening and management. Dr. Siddiqui also has special interest in minimally invasive surgery and is skilled in laparoscopic, robotic assisted laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgeries.

As Medical Director of the Birthing Center, Dr. Siddiqui will be a key member of the Women and Children’s Services team, promoting high standards for those services through development of policies and procedures, performance improvement monitoring and physician and staff education.

“The appointment of Dr. Siddiqui to medical directorship has positioned University of Maryland Shore Regional Health’s Birthing Center to be the region’s leader in patient-centered intrapartum and postpartum care, now and well into the future,” comments Dr. Huffner. “Her interest in innovative robotic gynecological surgeries and her efforts to establish partnerships that bring maternal fetal medicine specialists to the Eastern Shore to consult on high-risk pregnancies make her a tremendous asset to the Center’s team and an invaluable resource to physician and staff education initiatives.”

Says Luanne Satchell, BSN, RN, manager of Women and Children’s Services, “For more than 25 years, the Birthing Center at Shore Medical Center at Easton has welcomed babies into the world in a safe, comfortable environment, surrounded by a knowledgeable and caring clinical team, of which Dr. Siddiqui is a valued member. She works hand in hand with our nursing staff to ensure that mothers – and their new little ones – have an exceptional patient experience before, during and after childbirth.”
