CAMBRIDGE — As the situation regarding COVID-19 continues to develop, local groups are reaching out to spread the word about their events and schedules. It remains a good idea to check on the status of goods and services before leaving home.
The Banner compiled a list of announcements over the previous week, which follows:

Board of Education
A meeting will be held Thursday at 4 p.m.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this Board of Education meeting will be livestreamed only and there will be no public access to the Dorchester Career and Technology Center, 2465 Cambridge Bypass, Cambridge, MD 21613. The agenda and related documents can be accessed online via BoardDocs on the Dorchester County Public Schools website at dcps.k12.md.us. The meeting will be open to the public by livestreaming only townhallstreams.com/towns/dorchesterboe.
Due to COVID-19 Board Meetings are being held virtually and Public Comments can be emailed to Chris Dayton, daytonc@dcpsmd.org, by 2 p.m. Thursday.
After the start of the Open session, the Board will meet in Closed Session in accordance with Section 3-305 of the General Provisions of the Annotated Code of Maryland. At the conclusion of the Closed Session, the Board will reconvene at 6 p.m. in Open Session.

Get the information you need to successfully cast your ballot on Nov. 3. Included in a Zoom presentation sponsored by Delmarva Community Services, Inc. on Sept. 22 from 10-11 a.m. will be: mail-in ballot application process; how ballots will be received; internet ballot access; voting in person; safety precautions for in-person voting during the pandemic; important deadlines to remember; and more.

Relay for Life
Dorchester County Relay For Life Cash Bingo on Sept. 20 at the Federalsburg VFW. Doors open 1 p.m. Calling starts at 2 p.m. $30 advance tickets $35 at the door. Extra packets available for $10, 15 games of regular bingo with prizes $50 to $75 depending on attendance.
Sold separately, two specials worth at least $100, set of three cards $2 each or 3 for $5 and final jackpot game worth at least $250, set of three cards for $10 each!! 50/50 and pull tabs will be sold also!! Food and drinks for sale by the VFW.

Interpretive Buoy System
Thanks to our colleagues at the Maryland Department of Natural Resources for their help with the Annapolis buoy.
The Annapolis buoy hadn’t been working for some time, and under current operating protocol we were unable to get out to explore why it wasn’t sending data back to shore.
A Maryland DNR team was working in the area and pulled the buoy out of the water and brought it back to shore. That will make it easier for us to work on diagnosing the buoy’s issues. Still no ETA for redeployment, but this is a step in the right direction.

Community Initiatives
Friday is the day when the 2020 Day to Serve Initiative began. In honor of our heroes, victims, and survivors of 9-11, 2001, join us in choosing a Day to Serve between 9/11 and 10/10.

Stay up to date
It’s up to all of us to slow the spread of COVID-19. Everyone, including young and healthy people, should avoid large gatherings during this time. Stay up to date with public health guidelines from cdc.gov.

Federalsburg Halloween
Trunk or treat, an event previously hosted in the Town’s parking lot, has been canceled. However, children 12 and under may still go door to door from 6-7:30 p.m. on Oct. 31.

Neck District VFC
Block Party will take place Oct. 10, starting at 2 p.m.
As a lot of you may know, we had planned to hold our second Block Party in August. Unfortunately, due to covid restrictions, we were forced to postpone the event.
So we made some adjustments and here we are. Who doesn’t like a bonfire on a nice Fall evening?
We will have food, just like last year and of course s’mores. Please feel free to bring your own cooler with your favorite adult beverages, and don’t forget a chair to set up around the fire.
For the kids, we will have pumpkin decorating, face painting and a fire truck bouncy house.

Schools’ tech assistance
Is your child still having problems with a school-issued electronic device? IT technicians will be available to assist on Tuesday and Wednesday this week at schools, as per this schedule. Be sure to bring the device!
