CAMBRIDGE — As the situation regarding COVID-19 continues to develop, local groups are reaching out to spread the word about changes to their events and schedules. It remains a good idea to check on the status of goods and services before leaving home.
The Banner compiled a list of announcements over the previous week, which follows:

Maryland Emergency Management Agency
ALERT: We have received several calls regarding questions about disinfectant use and COVID-19. This is a reminder that under no circumstances should any disinfectant product be administered into the body through injection, ingestion or any other route.

Cambridge Elks Lodge #1272
We understand that the last month has been difficult on everyone. It has been extremely difficult on your lodge as well. If you have not paid your 2020-2021 annual dues, the Lodge sure could use that income now to pay the bills that we still have to pay (electric, annual insurance, and annual dues to Grand Lodge and the State Association).
Without the ability to be open to cover these costs we are solely relying on our membership dues to cover these expenses. If you are not able to pay them all at once we have in our by-laws the ability to accept half year payments and the other half can be deferred till October.
We know everyone is suffering, but your Lodge is also suffering without seeing your friendly faces. Please reach out to the secretary at bpoesecretary1272@outlook.com to make arrangements.
We will all get through this together and will all be together again enjoying the Small Lodge with a Great View.

United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore
First Shore Federal is contributing $10,000 to help the nonprofit organizations on the Lower Eastern Shore that are impacted by COVID-19. Funds will be split, with $5,000 going to United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore’s LIVE UNITED Response Fund and the remaining $5,000 to Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore’s COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund.
“First Shore Federal was one of the original organizations to help establish what is now UWLES, and we are eternally grateful for their continued dedication and support of our community,” President and CEO of UWLES Pam Gregory said. “Through partnerships like this, we are able to continue to meet the needs of the most vulnerable in our community.”

We have been seeing people wearing gloves while running errands. It is not recommended for the average person to wear gloves while shopping or running errands. The gloves could increase your risk of contamination because as you remove them, you contaminate other areas of your hands and body. It is best to simply focus on using hand sanitizer or washing your hands after you are finished with errands.
Protect yourself from COVID-19 while getting gas:
• If available, use disinfecting wipes on handles and buttons of gas pump before you touch them.
• After you get gas and pay, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
• Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water when you get to your destination.

Shore Regional Health
Last week was National Lab Services Week. Thank you to our Laboratory Services team members throughout our five-county region for everything you do behind the scenes to support our community’s health!

In the United States, one in six families pay half or more of their income on a place to live. This means that they are forced to make impossible choices — Safe homes, Nutritious food on the table, Health care, Reliable transportation.
As Habitat for Humanity International CEO, Jonathan Reckford, said, “When these are the choices you face, you can’t win… as the economic shocks from this crisis ripple out, these same families will be hardest hit. They always are.”
For too many, this has already begun. In our community, these are the families with whom we partner. These are the families who will look to Habitat Choptank to help them realize their dream for a safe home of their own.

How are you doing? We are going into week 6. As things continue to progress, please be mindful of how you are feeling mentally and physically.
If you begin to feel overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, disconnected, lonely, angry, sad, etc., consider reaching out to a licensed mental health professional. You can do brief therapy, six to eight sessions, or longer depending on your need just to help you adjust to our current situation.
We know people are being impacted financially, educationally, physically, relationally, and spiritually. We want you to know that therapists are on the front line working with clients. Teletherapy is available and many therapists are taking on new clients.

MidShore Meals til Monday
Wow! We gave out more than 200 bags of frozen and non-perishable food at Vienna on Thursday. It was supposed at begin at 11 a.m., but folks were lined up before 9 a.m., so Ms. Price said, “Let’s get started!”
It was so wonderful to be with the Meals til Monday and Vienna ES family. If you need food assistance for your family in Dorchester County we will make sure you have the information you need to get food. Call 443-225-6789.

Feed the Frontline
Feed the Frontline Maryland Eastern Shore is a joint initiative of several organizations in Dorchester and Talbot counties. The objective of the program is to provide meals for Covid-19 Frontline Workers while at the same time providing much needed business to local restaurants.
Last week, Amanda Bramble of Jimmie & Sook’s Restaurant fame arrived at the Eastern Shore Hospital Center with amazing boxed lunches for the staff — incredible crab cakes and BBQ with sides!
Judith Slaughter posted online, “Our staff was indeed grateful. The common thread was, ‘I cannot believe they did this for us!’”
“Our staff is devoted to keeping our patients safe. This program allowed the staff one day that they did not have to risk exposure to COVID-19 by leaving our facility to pick-up lunch,” Ms. Slaughter wrote. “Thank you, Dorchester Chamber of Commerce and Jimmie & Sook’s from the bottom of our hearts and full tummies!” To learn more, visit feedthefront-mes.org

The Dorchester Chamber of Commerce is taking donations from the community to help feed first responders here in the county. These donations are distributed to area restaurants, so they don’t just feed first responders, but they also help keep local businesses open.

It has been a month since the Drop-In Center has been open. That is not stopping us! We have been creative in the ways we are connecting with our clients and continuing to accept new clients. We have delivered food to 32 families during this time and have welcomed four new clients through our online application. Hey Kids! You’ve been writing notes to older folks who are stuck at home like you and it is really making folks smile! We have a lot more seniors who would like notes so keep them coming or if there are other kids who would like to participate get them writing!
Anyone/kids who would like to write can email Maryh@dcsdct.org OR send in the mail to Lemonade project c/o mary handley DCS 2450 Cambridge Beltway, Cambridge MD 21613. Ask questions of the seniors, what do they like? What did they do when the were kids? Ask them for advice. They love it.
When this is all over we’re hosting a party so everyone can meet, and have lemonade of course. Kids you are the best!
