The $43 million job is scheduled to be done in time for the beginning of the 2019 school year. The new building will replace the existing NDHS, decades old and showing its age. Work on the new site comprises not only a new building, but also a geothermal field and new sports facilities – in fact, the track was in action already this spring. “The building is virtually entirely closed in,” Mr. Hauge said in a prepared statement. “Openings either have windows and doors or temporary protection, but we are now basically weather tight.” Roof systems are nearing completion. Metal wall panels will proceed once roof work concludes. Masonry continues on the interior in the performance venue and miscellaneous column covers. Face brick will proceed in the remaining exterior areas upon completion of work in the performance venue. Other work in progress includes finishes and ceiling grid in the dining commons and other areas; ductwork is being hung; refrigerated walk-in boxes have been installed; drywall is going up; and geothermal piping work is moving rapidly, Mr. Hauge said. “This is one honkin’ big sucker for what is considered a very small high school,” Mr. Hauge said. “Still on the bubble; 0 days ahead, 0 days behind.” To see an architect’s animation of the outside and inside of the new school, visit ndhsreplacementproject.weebly.com.
