SHILOH – The curtain is ready to come up on North Dorchester High School’s 2018 Senior Class Play, “Into the Woods.” The play’s music and lyrics were written by Stephen Sondheim, combining the plots of several fairy tales.

First performed in San Diego in 1986 and on Broadway in 1987, “Into the Woods” features characters from “Little Red Riding Hood,” “Jack and the Beanstalk,” “Rapunzel,” “Cinderella” and others.

In the story, a childless baker and his wife are on a quest to begin a family, but a witch places a curse on them. They also interact with other storybook characters during their journey.

Adam Wilson is art director, Sabra Stewart is music director, and Lisa Rank is theatrical director for the play. During a rehearsal last week, she noted the talent and enthusiasm of the students.

“We have some really devoted theater kids here,” she said.

The group features first cast and understudies. The understudies will star in the Saturday matinee performance.

Cast members are: Collin Higgins, Kadie Laramore, Caroline Johnson, Grace Kriss, Kayla Harding, Seth Talley, Robby Sellers, Kalifa Warren, Jessica Ramey, Shae Reid, Colby Moore, Destiny Coleman, Hannah McCollister, Devone Williams, Trinity Cephas, Sabrina Ruths, Isabella Roberts, Mark Kriss, Devon Raickle, Isaiah Brinsfield, Kirsten Blades, Nick Lednum, Belen Ramirez and Storme Coleman.

Show times are March 1 at 7 p.m.; March 2, 7 p.m.; March 3, 1 and 7 p.m. and March 4 at 2 p.m.
