SHILOH – North Dorchester High School has named its Athletes of the Month for March. The student athletes are awarded based not only on their sports performances, but also for their achievements in academics and leadership.
The varsity boy and girl were sponsored by Jimmie and Sooks. The junior varsity/underclassmen were sponsored by Regal Cinemas of Salisbury.
Brooke Harding
Softball Coach Coach Clark Harrison nominated Brooke Harding for the varsity award in part because of her hard work in the classroom this year. “Also, she is our team captain and is working very hard in practice every day,” the coach said in a statement. “She has been an offensive leader for the girls’ softball team the past few years and continues to strive to do better.”
Joe Bates
Joe won the varsity nod for his success on the track and field team. He shows leadership as captain of the boys’ distance team. “Joe has served the track team well for the past four years. He demonstrates a positive attitude and good sportsmanship,” a statement from the school said. “Joe is a positive role model, setting a good example for newcomers to the team. He excels in all the distance races.”
Jacob Murphy
Jacob Murphy is the March boys’ junior varsity/underclassman athlete of the month.
“Jacob is a sophomore and after getting cut last year as freshman, he has come back with a vengeance and has improved dramatically both academically and athletically,” the statement said. “He has worked very hard in practice to date every day.”
Brie Bates
Brie Bates is a junior who sets a great example for the team. This example secured her place at the girls’ junior varsity/underclassman of the month for the track and field team.
“She willingly works with newcomers to improve their performance, demonstrating good leadership qualities,” the statement said. “Brie specializes in sprints and runs the 400-meter relay and the mile relay. She is an asset to the team.”
