HUDSON - Myrtle Spedden, 101, of The Neck District of Cambridge, died on Thursday, March 29, 2007, at Chesapeake Woods Center, Cambridge.

Born on Feb. 3, 1906, at Hudson, she was the daughter of the late James Franklin Spedden and Florence Marshall Spedden.

Miss Spedden was a graduate of Cooks Point School and began working as a teacher at age 18. She taught at Cassons Neck School, which was a one-room schoolhouse. She then later taught at Hills Point School and then at Hudson School teaching from 1940s to the 1970s from where she retired.

Miss Spedden was a life member of Spedden United Methodist Church and had at one time been a member of the United Methodist Women. She was responsible for the Christmas programs at the church and was one of the active individuals to organize plays and programs to benefit the Church which were held at the Neck District Fire Hall.

Surviving is a niece, Doris Everhart McClain and her husband, Jack of Cambridge; a great-niece, Sharon Sweet of Bowie; two great-nephews, Kenneth Frosch of Alexandria, Va., John Frosch and his wife, Tracie of Cheverly; two great-great-nieces, Devon Sweet, Jessica Sweet, and one great-great-nephew, John Still.

Preceding her in death was a sister, Helen Spedden Everhart and a niece, Helen "Jean" Bigio.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today, at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A., where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be The Rev. David L. Kreek. Burial will follow at Spedden-Seward Cemetery, Hills Point.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Howard Jr., Radcliffe Wheatley, Keith Howard, David Benjamin, Chris Condon and Art Wheatley.

Memorial offerings may be made to Spedden United Methodist Church, c/o Carolyn Wright, 507 Gay St., Cambridge, MD 21613.
