CAMBRIDGE — The Dorchester County Council honored Maj. Steve Mills Sr. on July 16, commending him for his 30 years of service at the county’s Detention Center.

Libby Nagel (District 5) read the commendation, saying in part, “He has demonstrated exemplary attributes and dedication throughout his employment with the Dorchester County Department of Corrections.”

After he was presented with a framed certificate, and with the council members and his family at his side, Maj. Mills said, “I would like to especially say thanks to Sheriff McKelvey, who hired me back in 1989, when the jail was across the street. That’s where my career started. It’s been a wonderful career. Thank you to all the guys who supported me.”

He also received congratulations online, in posts from his friends and colleagues. “Major Mills, it’s been an honor working with you, sir,” David Kemp wrote.
Kandy Waller wrote, “Major Mills, enjoy your retirement. Job well done, sir!”

Wayne Robinson wrote, “Congratulations, and enjoy the fishing, hunting and cutting grass. Thanks for your support when I was the Emergency Management director.”

Paula Kane also recently retired from the Detention Center. She wrote, “Well, my big brother, you finally caught up with me. I couldn’t have done it without you. Congratulations and enjoy yourself. You will always be a great person who was there for me and it was a great honor to have worked with such a great person. You made it through the good, bad and the ugly. Again, congratulations.”
