US-Crypto Scam

Party's over for crypto scammers who went on a spending spree after a $240 million bitcoin theft

SUMMARY: A 22-year-old man from Singapore is expected to plead guilty this week in Washington to orchestrating one of the largest cryptocurrency thefts in U.S. history, duping a stranger out of bitcoin worth over $240 million. Malone Lam's conviction would be a major milestone in a case that already has led to guilty pleas by several co-conspirators. The scammers who duped a man into turning over the virtual keys to his crypto holdings celebrated the August 2024 heist by embarking on a wild spending spree. The case is an extreme example of an increasingly common form of cybercrime at a time when the Trump administration is relaxing industry regulation.

US--Sept 11-Many Different Griefs

One attack, many Americas: Why 9/11 and its many griefs land differently 25 years later

SUMMARY: The September 11 attacks 25 years ago left a lasting impact on the United States, affecting not just those who lost loved ones but the entire nation. The event shattered Americans' sense of safety and unity. Today, the effects are still felt, but not everyone experiences them the same way. Generations born after 9/11 learn about it in history lessons, while others live with its direct consequences. People's views are shaped by personal experiences and policies enacted afterward.

BBO--Red Sox-Orioles

Aroldis Chapman earns 400th save, White HR helps Red Sox beat Orioles 3-1 for 4-game sweep

SUMMARY: Aroldis Chapman notched his 400th career save, Eli White hit a three-run homer following an error by Gunnar Henderson and the Boston Red Sox capped a four-game sweep of the Baltimore Orioles with a 3-1 victory. Chapman gave up a one-out single in the ninth Sunday before finishing to become the ninth player in major league history to record 400 saves. The 38-year-old lefty earned his first save in 2011 with Cincinnati went on to have 10 seasons with 30 or more, including 33 this season. In the second inning, with two outs and a runner on, Henderson failed to make a backhand stab of a grounder to shortstop. White followed with a drive off Kyle Bradish that cleared the left-field wall.

BBO--Red Sox-Chapman-400

Chapman, Red Sox celebrate his 400th career save as 'special'

SUMMARY: Long after the fastball from Aroldis Chapman whistled into the catcher’s mitt to end the game, the Boston Red Sox whopped it up with a chant that resonated through the clubhouse. “Chappy! Chappy! Chappy!” they yelled. And for good reason. With a 101 mph pitch that drew a swing and a miss from Christian Encarnacion-Strand, Chapman earned his 400th career save Sunday, sealing Boston’s 3-1 victory and a four-game sweep of the Baltimore Orioles. The 38-year-old lefty registered his first save with the Cincinnati Reds in 2011. Little did anyone know at the time that Chapman would ultimately become only the ninth pitcher in baseball history to reach the 400 mark in saves.

Arizona State routs Morgan State 70-7 as new QB Boley tosses 6 TD passes

SUMMARY: Cutter Boley threw six touchdown passes in his Arizona State debut and the Sun Devils routed Morgan State 70-7 in their season opener Saturday night. BBO--Dodgers-Ohtani

Shohei Ohtani out of lineup again but Dodgers optimistic about Monday return

SUMMARY: Shohei Ohtani was out of the starting lineup for a fourth consecutive game Sunday night, but the Los Angeles Dodgers' tentative plan is to have their designated hitter back Monday against the Cincinnati Reds. Ohtani's current respite is due to ongoing left knee and right biceps soreness that has bothered him since before the All-Star break. Progress has been methodical, with Ohtani getting two days completely void of activity before hitting in the indoor batting cage Saturday. Ohtani was 7 for 51 with one home run over his last 13 games before getting his longest break since missing the last month of the 2022 season as a member of the Los Angeles Angels with an elbow injury.

Shelton, Tiafoe and Michelsen win at the US Open as American men aim to end a Grand Slam drought

SUMMARY: Frances Tiafoe and Alex Michelsen will meet in the U.S. Open quarterfinals. Ben Shelton is there as well, set to face defending champion Carlos Alcaraz. The American men are making a real run at ending their lengthy Grand Slam drought. The U.S. hasn’t had a men’s major champion since Andy Roddick won in Flushing Meadows in 2003, and there haven’t even been many great opportunities in the more than two decades since. But backed by the home crowd and in good form, the Americans had five players in the final 16 of a major for the first time since 1995.

Bo Bichette hits 3-run homer in 8th inning as Mets rally past Giants 4-2

SUMMARY: Bo Bichette launched a go-ahead three-run homer with two outs in the eighth inning after an intentional walk to Juan Soto, and the New York Mets rallied for a 4-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants. Brett Baty opened the inning by hitting his second career pinch-hit homer when his drive off Carson Seymour cleared the left-field fence by a few feet. A.J. Ewing singled and was sacrificed to second by Luis Torrens. After right fielder Jung Hoo Lee made a sliding catch on Francisco Lindor’s sinking liner, the Giants intentionally walked Soto after Seymour threw two pitches out of the strike zone. Bichette then hammered an 0-1 slider into the left-field seats. Kodai Senga pitched a perfect ninth for his sixth save.

TEN--US Open-Alcaraz

Surprise! Alcaraz learns during ESPN interview he was wrong about his next US Open opponent

SUMMARY: Next up for Carlos Alcaraz at the U.S. Open is ... not who he thought it was. Alcaraz was surprised to learn during an interview on ESPN after his victory Sunday that his quarterfinal match would be against either Ben Shelton or Stefanos Tsitsipas in a match that Shelton later won. The defending champion visited the set after beating Tommy Paul in his fourth-round match. Andy Roddick, the 2003 U.S. Open champion, asked Alcaraz about the challenges either player would present. A confused Alcaraz asked him to repeat the question. When Roddick started to ask about Shelton and Tsitsipas, Alcaraz interrupted to say he thought he was playing Frances Tiafoe or Daniil Medvedev.

FBC--QB Recruiting

High school QBs face new reality as transfers dominate starting jobs at the top of college football

SUMMARY: This is a complicated time to be a high school quarterback recruit. There aren’t as many roster spots available for those guys now that most Bowl Subdivision quarterbacks rely on transfers as their starting quarterbacks. And it allows college coaches to be choosier. About 65% of the FBS starting quarterbacks to open this season transferred at some point in their careers. The reliance on transfers by most major programs leaves fewer roster spots available for high school prospects.

Falcons name Tua Tagovailoa as Week 1 starter, Michael Penix Jr. will be inactive vs. Steelers

SUMMARY: Tua Tagovailoa has been named the Atlanta Falcons' starting quarterback for Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The team announced the decision Monday after Tagovailoa's monthslong competition with Michael Penix Jr. Penix started nine games for the Falcons in 2025 before a season-ending ACL injury in November. Coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday that Cooper Rush will back up Tagovailoa and Penix will be inactive. Tagovailoa outnumbered Penix in snaps during training camp and started the Falcons' first and final preseason games.
