Judge postpones civil trial over deadly collapse of Baltimore's Key Bridge after late settlements
SUMMARY: A federal judge has agreed to postpone a civil trial over the 2024 collapse of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge after a flurry of last-minute settlements resolved most of the remaining claims. U.S. District Judge James Bredar was scheduled to hear attorneys’ opening statements on Monday. Instead, he postponed the proceedings indefinitely to consider legal arguments that could lead to further settlements and possibly end the litigation without a trial. Virtually all of the unresolved claims allege economic losses by businesses and local governments. Last week's settlements resolved the remaining claims over the deaths of six construction workers.

SUMMARY: Court records show a bus driver accused of causing a fatal chain-reaction crash in Virginia had been cited twice for speeding in the last two years. Forty-eight-year-old Jing Sheng Dong of Staten Island, New York, has been charged with five counts of involuntary manslaughter and one count of reckless driving. The crash early Friday morning on I-95 killed five people and injured dozens more. From festering infections to untreated cancer, ICE detainees across the US describe medical neglect
SUMMARY: Immigrant detainees across at least 33 states allege in court documents that the government is failing to provide them with adequate medical care. An investigation by The Associated Press and KFF Health News found that people detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement are being denied access to doctors and medications for maladies ranging from dental pain to pregnancy to prostate cancer. Detainees say their requests for help have gone unanswered as blood sugars rise, infections fester and cancers remain untreated. Their allegations span the sprawling detention system, including county jails, large private facilities and quickly staged sites such as “Alligator Alcatraz” in Florida.

Pride Month 2026 has begun. Here's what to expect for the LGBTQ+ celebrations
SUMMARY: Pride month has begun in the U.S. and around the world. The modern LGBTQ+ celebrations and parades sprang from protests following the violent police raid of New York's Stonewall Inn in 1969. The original events were in big cities including New York and San Francisco, but they've become institutions in small towns and suburbs, too — and in cities around the world. The events have a mix of party and protest, particularly in a time when the Trump administration and some states have rolled out policies to reel in rights for some LGBTQ+ people.

What to watch in Tuesday's primaries as Democrats try to defend California and make inroads in Iowa
SUMMARY: Democrats are trying to defend California and make inroads in Iowa in primary elections. California's governor's race is lacking star power this year. Big names like Kamala Harris and Alex Padilla have opted out, leaving a crowded field of about 60 candidates. Democrats are looking to Iowa for one of their best chances to pick up a governor’s seat in a state that's repeatedly disappointed them. Republicans are grappling with a New Jersey congressman whose unexplained absence could put their already slim majority at risk. And as voters cast ballots Tuesday, Los Angeles is deciding who'll lead the nation’s second-largest city as it prepares to host the Olympics.

New York sues over the Trump administration's deal to end an offshore wind project
SUMMARY: New York’s attorney general is suing the Trump administration over one of its deals to end an offshore wind project. French company TotalEnergies is getting $1 billion, essentially a refund of its leases for offshore wind projects off New York and North Carolina, if it invests the money in fossil fuel projects instead. State attorneys general from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Vermont joined New York in challenging the cancellation of the lease off of New York, the larger of the two projects and the bulk of the payout. The complaint filed Tuesday names Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, among others. Burgum says TotalEnergies was simply refunded their money, which they have already invested in other energy projects in the U.S.

The Latest: Polls open for races across the US as a busy primary election day gets underway
SUMMARY: For a state that’s home to Hollywood, there isn’t much star power in California’s gubernatorial race. It’s a somewhat different story in Los Angeles, where a reality television personality is running for mayor as the city prepares to host the Olympics. More primaries are being held on Tuesday as well. Democrats are banking on a rare chance to regain ground in Iowa, a rural state that has repeatedly eluded them in recent years. Republicans, meanwhile, are grappling with a New Jersey congressman whose unexplained absence could put their already slim majority at risk.

New Jersey Democrats pick opponent in House district with absent Republican incumbent
SUMMARY: Democrats testing their chances in a right-leaning New Jersey battleground district are picking their nominee in a House primary to take on Republican incumbent Tom Kean Jr., who’s been absent for months from Congress as he deals with an unspecified medical issue. New Jersey’s 7th District, nestled amid suburban towns and rolling farmland — and including one of President Donald Trump’s golf clubs — is the highest-profile race in the state on Tuesday. Four Democrats are competing to take on Kean, whose aides have said he plans on seeking a third term.

Giants add receivers Odell Beckham Jr., JuJu Smith-Schuster and returner Braxton Berrios
SUMMARY: Odell Beckham Jr. is returning to the New York Giants. The 33-year-old receiver signed with the Giants on Monday after visiting and working out with them in April. Beckham joined after wideout Gunner Olszewski tore his right Achilles tendon in an offseason workout practice last week. There is also uncertainty at the position with Malik Nabers recovering from a torn ACL and no guarantee he will be ready to play by Week 1 in September. The Giants also signed receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster and Braxton Berrios, according to a person with knowledge of the moves.

Big market, small market, same NBA Finals stage: How the Knicks and Spurs got here so differently
SUMMARY: Getting to the NBA Finals proves that the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs have made plenty of smart moves along the way. You need a star, like a Jalen Brunson or a Victor Wembanyama. They need some help. They need the right coach. But this finals matchup, which starts Wednesday in San Antonio, also shows that there’s no one way to get all those things done. Knicks vs. Spurs isn’t just a clash for the NBA title, it’s a clash in styles as well.

Myles Garrett follows Micah Parsons' path as the latest star player traded in his prime
SUMMARY: The deal to send two-time AP Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett from Cleveland to the Los Angeles Rams puts him in company with several other great players who have been traded away in the NFL. Eagles trade receiver A.J. Brown to the Patriots, setting up reunion with coach Mike Vrabel
SUMMARY: The Philadelphia Eagles have traded wide receiver A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots. The Eagles will receive a first-round pick in 2028 and a fifth-round pick in 2027 for the three-time Pro Bowler. The trade comes after a frustrating 2025 season for Brown in Philadelphia, in which he had grown dispirited with an Eagles offense that played uninspired football at times while the team failed to defend its Super Bowl title. Brown’s arrival in New England will be a reunion with coach Mike Vrabel, who Brown played under for three seasons after being drafted by the Tennessee Titans in 2019.
