Zohran Mamdani has bold promises. Can he make them come true as New York City mayor?
SUMMARY: Zohran Mamdani has promised to transform New York City government when he becomes mayor. Can he do it? Mamdani, a 34-year-old democratic socialist, already faces intense scrutiny, even before taking office in one of the country’s most scrutinized political jobs. Republicans have cast him as a liberal boogeyman. Some of his fellow Democrats have deemed him too far left. Progressives are closely watching for any signs of him shifting toward the center. On Jan. 1, he will assume control of America’s biggest city under that harsh spotlight, with the country watching to see if he can pull off the big promises that vaulted him to office and handle the everyday duties of the job.

Pennsylvania man with autism is certified as a paramedic, overcoming anxiety and tragedy
SUMMARY: A Pennsylvania man with autism overcame anxiety and the tragic loss of his sister and best friend to become certified as a paramedic. For Monty Mitchell, learning the academic and practical training came naturally. He has to work to overcome his anxiety and to show empathy. It's unclear how rising unemployment will affect people with disabilities, who in the last few years reached historic levels of employment. Mitchell comes from a family of firefighters and medics and his mother nudged him in that direction. He worked as an EMT with a fire department that had a scholarship allowing him to attend college to become a paramedic.

The sharp cold front left parts of the central U.S. waking up to temperatures 50 degrees colder than the day before. The National Weather Service had warned of whiteout conditions beginning Sunday that could make travel impossible in some areas.

Pittsburgh Steelers' playoff fate tied to DK Metcalf's two-game suspension and a Detroit Lions fan
SUMMARY: The Detroit Lions won't make the playoffs, but one of their fans has influenced the postseason picture. The NFL suspended Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf for the final two games after an incident with Lions fan Ryan Kennedy. Metcalf's absence was felt in the Steelers' 13-6 loss to Cleveland. This sets up a crucial game against the Baltimore Ravens, with the winner taking the AFC North and the loser going home. The NFC faces a similar scenario between the Panthers and Buccaneers. Analysts say the Steelers need to adjust their strategy without Metcalf to succeed against the Ravens.

Jets coach Aaron Glenn backtracks on criticism of team's effort after blowout loss
SUMMARY: Jets coach Aaron Glenn has shifted his view on the team's effort after a 42-10 loss to New England. Initially critical, Glenn now says effort wasn't the issue. He believes the Patriots' schemes were challenging and the Jets need to improve. The Jets have struggled this season with a record of 3-13. Glenn aims to build a "brand" of football focused on physicality and consistency and that's something that isn't showing up lately. Despite the tough season, RB Breece Hall stood out with a strong performance and became the team's first 1,000-yard rusher since 2015. The Jets have one more game against Buffalo before what will likely be a busy offseason.

Raiders' personnel decisions last week are potentially long-term benefits
SUMMARY: The Las Vegas Raiders placed key players on injured reserve last week. This decision has weakened the roster, leading to a 34-10 loss against the Giants. Despite the challenges, tight end Michael Mayer has shown promise, while special teams continue to struggle. The Raiders face the Chiefs on Sunday to close their season.

Eagles still have No. 2 or No. 3 seed in NFC at stake headed into finale against Washington
SUMMARY: The Philadelphia Eagles are gearing up for their Week 18 home game against Washington, aiming for a strong playoff position. They could secure the No. 2 seed if they beat the Commanders and Chicago loses to Detroit. This would mean more home playoff games, similar to last season's Super Bowl run. Coach Nick Sirianni, with 65 wins, is second in franchise history. The Eagles' defense has been a standout, sacking Josh Allen five times and holding Buffalo's top-rushing offense to 120 yards. Jalen Hurts struggled with passing in the second half, but the team remains confident heading into the playoffs.

The erratic Steelers blew a chance to clinch the AFC North in Cleveland. Week 18 could go either way
SUMMARY: The Pittsburgh Steelers will have to regroup after missing out on a golden chance to clinch the AFC North. The Steelers sputtered for long stretches in a 13-6 loss to last-place Cleveland as the offense struggled without suspended star receiver DK Metcalf. Pittsburgh can still reach the playoffs for the fifth time in six years by beating Baltimore in Week 18, but the Steelers' confidence could be shaky after leaving the door open for the Ravens. Pittsburgh could have outside linebacker T.J. Watt available after he missed the last three weeks while recovering from surgery to repair a partially collapsed lung.

After beating Steelers, Stefanski and Browns are on to Cincinnati as his future remains uncertain
SUMMARY: Kevin Stefanski is focused on the Cleveland Browns' game against Cincinnati, not his future with the team. Despite a disappointing season, the Browns have shown promise recently. They defeated Pittsburgh 13-6 on Sunday, preventing the Steelers from clinching the AFC North. This win was Cleveland's fourth of the season, surpassing last year's total. If the Browns win again, Stefanski's chances of staying improve. However, if owner Jimmy Haslam decides to move on, Stefanski would be a strong candidate elsewhere. Stefanski remains focused on beating the Bengals and appreciates his current role.
