US--OpenAI-Nonprofit

OpenAI's advisory board calls for continued and strengthened nonprofit oversight

SUMMARY: An advisory board convened by OpenAI says it should continue to be controlled by a nonprofit because the artificial intelligence technology it is developing is “too consequential” to be governed by a corporation alone. The commission made the recommendation in a report released on Thursday.  The recommendations are not binding on OpenAI but the advisory commission offers a framework that may be used to judge OpenAI in the future. OpenAI, which makes ChatGPT, started in 2015 as a nonprofit research laboratory. It has since incorporated a for-profit company with a valuation that has grown to $300 billion.

Inside the high-stakes battle to win a New York City casino license

SUMMARY: Eight projects are vying for a state license to operate a casino in the lucrative New York City market. US--Campus Sexual Assault

Man who sent Facebook message about committing a 2013 campus sexual assault pleads guilty

SUMMARY: An American extradited from France to face charges that he sexually assaulted a fellow Pennsylvania college student in 2013 has pleaded guilty. A lawyer for 32-year-old Ian Cleary says he was unaware of the charges filed in 2021 and not on the run. Cleary admits he sent the victim a Facebook message in 2019 that said, “So I raped you." He faces a proposed four- to eight-year sentence after Thursday’s plea. Victim Shannon Keeler, the former Gettysburg University student who pursued the case for more than a decade, says the case took twists and turns before justice was done.
