GOLDEN HILL – 17-year-old Jocelyn Meyers of Hurlock bested the competition at Friday night’s Miss Outdoors Pageant in Golden Hill, winning both the talent competition and the title of Miss Outdoors for 2019. Jocelyn faced tough competition in a field of 10 girls vying for this year’s title.
The annual National Outdoor Show features not only the pageant, but is also a celebration of traditional pastimes, lifestyles and crafts found in South Dorchester County.
The first runner-up at the National Outdoor Show pageant was Katherine Bradshaw of Rhodesdale, and the second runner-up position was filled by Kyla Diggs of Hurlock. Ms. Diggs also won the Miss Congeniality award, an honor given by vote of the other contestants.
Jocelyn is a senior at North Dorchester High School and is president of the Senior Class. There she is a member of the National, Math and Technical Honor Societies. She has been singing since she was three years old, and has attended the Eastern Shore Dance Academy for 11 years.
Upon graduation she will be attending the Delaware Technical and Community College where she plans on earning a doctoral degree in physical therapy. She intends to return to Dorchester to practice physical therapy.
The pageant evening was dedicated to the memory of Frances Bradshaw, a long-time friend of the Outdoor Show and a favorite for her pecan pies at the bake table. Saturday night’s event was dedicated to the memory of Susan Kraushaar, who in recent years managed the bake sale during the show with her husband Charles.
