CAMBRIDGE — As the situation regarding COVID-19 continues to develop, local groups are reaching out to spread the word about changes to their events and schedules. It remains a good idea to check on the status of goods and services before leaving home.
The Banner compiled a list of announcements over the previous week, which follows:

Christmas Parade
Just like that, the 2020 Cambridge Dorchester County Christmas Parade has a theme, “Fishing You a Merry Christmas.” We’re hoping it gives a chuckle. We’re full steam ahead. Of course, we will have to play by ear as December nears whether we will be allowed to go forward. Fret not, we have some things up our sleeves. If we can’t party like it’s 1999, we’ll use this year’s hard work for next year’s event. We’re staying optimistic…can’t rain on our parade!

Gov. Larry Hogan
“Most Marylanders who have recently tested positive for COVID-19 went to family gatherings, house parties and outdoor events,” Gov. Larry Hogan said Wednesday.
Nearly half of those who were interviewed by contact tracers tested positive for COVID-19 after attending a family gathering, Hogan said during a news conference.
“The number-one activity of those who have tested positive recently, reported by a staggering 44 percent, nearly half of all those who were interviewed by contact tracers, or just tested positive, was attending family gatherings,” the governor said.
Nearly one in four reported attending house parties prior to testing positive for COVID-19, while 21 percent said they had attended outdoor events.
Hogan said Marylanders must still remain vigilant while around family and at higher-risk locations like shopping at retail stores, dining outdoors at a restaurant and dining indoors at a restaurant.
“Each of us has to be cautious and vigilant,” the governor said. “We can’t afford to let our guard down.”

DoCo Health Department
Dorchester County Health Department is continuing free COVID-19 testing during the month of August. Curbside testing will be held every Monday and Wednesday 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. except for Aug. 22 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and Aug. 26 3 p.m.-6 p.m.
Testing is open to all, weather permitting, and appointment free. All you need is a face covering. Spanish interpreters will be onsite.
The type of tests used may vary at each event because they are dependent on the shipments received from the state.
Free walk-up COVID-19 testing on Aug. 6, 3 p.m.-6 p.m. on the grassy corner lot of Greenwood and Cosby Avenue in Cambridge, weather permitting. No appointment, doctor’s order, or insurance needed. Must wear face coverings. Spanish interpreters available.

State Board of Elections
Did you know you can be part of the election process? Help fellow voters by being an election worker. Want a mail-in (absentee) ballot for the Nov. 3 election? You’ll need to apply to receive a ballot. It’s safe and secure. Apply to receive your mail-in (absentee) ballot today by completing an application online. More info at elections.maryland.gov.

Poor Boy Fishing Tournament
We are still in hope to have our Poor Boy event on Sept. 5. We have a few complications at the moment, but we are doing our best to still provide a fun and safe time.
There will be a handful of changes that will occur for this year, but our goal is to just have the event continue this year. Possible changes: fee, prize money, location, food, poles, shirts. We will keep you updated as soon as we find out more information.

Md. Transportation Authority
E-ZPass Maryland Customer Service Centers at toll facility buildings are open with limited capacity and operational changes Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Centers located at Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration branches remain closed until further notice.
E-ZPass account maintenance (add funds, update vehicles, etc.) and toll payments are available 24/7 at ezpassmd.com and automated phone IVR at 1-888-321-6824.

Shore Regional Health
Beginning Aug. 3, there will be a free COVID-19 testing site opening at Chesapeake College in Wye Mills. This site will offer free COVID-19 testing from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. There are still open timeslots for this upcoming Monday.

Elks Lodge 1272

Nause-Waiwash Band of Indians

We regret to announce the Nause-Waiwash Band of Indians 28th Annual Native American Festival has been canceled. The tribal council has had in depth conversations, weighing the options as to whether we should move forward with our annual event. After much deliberation and praying, the tribal council has made the decision to put the health of our people and the public first.
The council feels, the unanimous decision to cancel the 28th Annual Native American Festival is the safest decision they could make at this time. We apologize to everyone.
We were so looking forward to this time of rejuvenation, healing, fellowship, educating, and sharing. We will continue to keep everyone in our prayers.
Thank you for your dedication and support to the Nause-Waiwash Band of Indians. We appreciate it very much. Pleasant journeys.

Cambridge Moose Lodge 1211
We will be opening the lodge Aug. 4. We will be following the mandatory CDC guidelines. At this time we will only be offering food off of our regular menu, and will be starting dinners at a later date.
