Flood Statement

National Weather Service Baltimore MD/Washington DC

1115 PM EDT Wed May 14 2025

...The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in

Maryland...Virginia...

Potomac River at Edwards Ferry affecting Loudoun and Montgomery

Counties.

For the Potomac River...including Edwards Ferry...Moderate flooding

is forecast.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive

cars through flooded areas.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood

deaths occur in vehicles.

Additional information is available at www.weather.gov/washington or

The next statement will be issued early Thursday morning.Thursday

morning at 1115 AM EDT.

...FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL EARLY SATURDAY AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is

forecast.

* WHERE...Potomac River at Edwards Ferry.

* WHEN...Until early Saturday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...At 17 feet, floodwaters begin to enter the store at

Whites Ferry. At 18.5 feet, the parking lot at Edwards Ferry is

completely covered by water. The parking lot at Seneca is

partially flooded. At 20 feet, the basements of the Edwards Ferry

and Rileys Lockhouse are flooded. Backwater flooding may affect

homes on the Loudoun County side of the river near Broad Run in

Sterling.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

- At 11:00 PM EDT Wednesday the stage was 16.7 feet, or 1.7

feet above flood stage.

- Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours

ending at 11:00 PM EDT Wednesday was 16.7 feet.

- Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 21.4

feet early tomorrow afternoon. It will then fall below flood

stage Saturday morning.

- Flood stage is 15.0 feet.

- Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of

21.1 feet on 05/17/2014.
