DELMAR, Md. - Maysie Cornelia Todd, 94, formerly of Wingate, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2008 at her daughter and son-in-law's home, while surrounded by her family and friends.

Born on Jan. 6, 1914 in Crapo, she was the daughter of the late William and Sadie Foxwell Mister. Mrs. Todd lost her parents at a very young age and was separated from her older brother, Arthur when she moved to Virginia with family members.

At the age of 9 years old, she was adopted by a prominent family, Mrs. Arianna Andrews, proprietor of W.T. Andrews, General Merchants and Cannery of Crapo. She spent many happy years growing up with her new family, Emmett, Myrtle, Jesse and Elsie Andrews. Mrs. Todd would later be reunited with her brother.

She graduated in 1932 from Crapo High School and attended Baltimore Beauty Academy and became a licensed beautician. On Dec. 31, 1933 she married Philip Woodrow Todd of Toddville, and they celebrated 53 years together making their home in Wingate. Mr. Todd passed away Jan. 5, 1986.

Mrs. Todd had worked as a reporter for the newspaper, The Daily Banner, for several years and also with Frankel's of Cambridge. She retired as a secretary with Meredith and Meredith Seafood Co.

Mrs. Todd was an accomplished pianist, playing in community events and churches. She and her husband, Philip became a well-loved duo. Music and entertainment were always a special part of their home while sharing with family and friends.

Mrs. Todd was actively involved in the Lakes and Straits Volunteer Fire Department and was one of its founders. She was active in civic and political events.

Mrs. Todd held a life membership with Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Crapo and was an active benefactor of Anointed One Ministries of Cambridge.

Mrs. Todd was an avid bird watcher and was devoted to her companions Bootsie, Tucker, Skye, Harley and Davidson. She was especially proud of being selected for the cover feature for Metropolitan Magazine in 2005.

She is survived by her three children, Philip Wayne Todd and his wife, Janet, William Arthur Todd and his wife, Carolyn, all of Cambridge; Phyllis Cornelia Cook and her husband, Henry "Hank" of Delmar; eight grandchildren, Darren Hurley of Midlothian, Va., Todd Hurley of Hebron, Howard Todd of Toddville, Gregory Whitten of Secretary, Kim Whitten of Cambridge, Franklin Cook of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Shana Moe of Sharptown, and Nadine Brown of Federalsburg; 11 great-grandchildren; two nieces, Barbara Stafford and Carole Brohawn; sister-in-law, Merilyn Cusick; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She is also survived by special friends, Alois Matthews, Patsy Meredith, Ellen Nichols, Tammie Yarns, Norma Gordon and Lana Wilde.

Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband, was a brother Emmett Andrews, who was well-known in Dorchester County as being one of the originators of the National Outdoor Show and was instrumental in the placement of white tail deer in the county. Other deceased family members include three sisters, Jesse Andrews Kennard, Myrtle Andrews, Elsie Andrews Booze; a brother, Arthur Henry Mister; and a niece, Dr. June Arianna Kennard.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A., where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be the Rev's Lemuel and Lavone Chester, pastors of Anointed One Ministries, Cambridge. Burial will follow at Old Trinity Church Cemetery, Church Creek.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Darren Hurley, Todd Hurley, Howard Todd, Gregory Whitten, Kim Whitten and great-grandchild, Taylor Hurley. Casket spray bearer will be Henry "Hank" Cook.
