Maybelle Elizabeth Smiley

DELMAR - Maybelle Elizabeth Smiley, 90, formerly of Delmar, died Monday, May 8, 2017, at Seton Medical Center in Harker Heights, Texas. Born in Delmar, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Alberta Johnson Scye.
Her late husband, the Rev. Clement L. Smiley, died in 1986.
She was a graduate of the former Paul Laurence Dunbar School in Laurel and Delaware State College in Dover. She was formerly employed at Delmar Elementary School and Lil Red Hen Nursery School as a teacher's aide, worked as a private Certified Nursing Assistant, worked in the Dietary Dept. at Harrison House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Delmar.
She was a member of Mount Nebo United Methodist Church in Columbia, Del., Solomon's AUMP Church of Williamsburg, Md., and Mount Pleasant AUMP Church in Wallertown, Md.
Her survivors include four children: Deanna Smiley-Morris of Copperas Cove, Texas, Clement Raymond Smiley of Brownwood, Texas, Renee Brown Seymour of Memphis, Tenn., Regina Batson of Seaford; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ernestine Scye Brown of Seaford; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three siblings: Merle Johnson, Floyd "Sam" Scye and Mary Scye.
A funeral service was held Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Jolley Memorial Chapel in Salisbury. Interment was in Mount Nebo Church Cemetery in Columbia, Del.
