NEW MARKET - Mary Belle Lewis, 79, of East New Market, and formerly of Salisbury, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, in Chesapeake Woods Center. Born in Salisbury she was the daughter of the late Howard and Hilda White Mills. A graduate of Peninsula Regional Nursing School she has worked as a registered nurse at The University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore and at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Lewis retired from Dorchester County Vocational School where she taught nursing. She enjoyed art, ceramics, and mostly spending time with her family and grandchildren. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Julie Lewis of East New Market; two grandchildren, Cody and Jordan Lewis; a sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Ronnie Noble of Tyaskin; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Lewis in 1980 and a sister, Norma Lloyd. A funeral service will be held today at 11 a.m. in Bounds Funeral Home on East Main St., Salisbury, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Dorchester Memorial Park in Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Eastern Shore Chapter, C/O Doris Carpenter, 209C Milford St., Salisbury, MD 21804.
