Martha Ray Chase Greene

EASTON - Martha Ray Chase Greene, of Easton, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at her home in Unionville. She was 98. Born in Harmans on Sept. 14, 1912, she was the 10th child of 12 children born to the late James Frank and Lillian Louise Chase. Mrs. Greene was married to the late John W. Greene. Mrs. Greene was a graduate of Douglass High School in Baltimore. She received a teacher's certificate in Elementary Education from Bowie Normal School, now Bowie State University. She earned her B.S. Degree in Education from Morgan State University. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Miles River Neck, in Unionville and at Wittman Elementary until the one-room schools were consolidated. She then went to teach at Glenwood Elementary & Easton Middle Schools. Mrs. Greene retired June 1976 after 44 years of service in Talbot County. Mrs. Greene was a member of St. Stephen's AME Church in Unionville for 60+ years. She was the organist, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent for many years. She is survived by one daughter, Corrine Greene Wallace; one granddaughter, Sheila Greene; three great-grandchildren, Amira King, Orissa Thomas and LaToya Perkins; four great, great-grandsons, Nasir, Kuron, Ali'jah and De'Meire. In addition to her parents, siblings and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Elwood Hamilton. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church corner of Hanson St and Idlewild Ave Easton, with a viewing Friday evening 6-8 p.m. at St. Stephens AME Church Unionville.
