Martha G. Hurley

Martha G. Hurley, 88 CAMBRIDGE - Martha G. Hurley, of Cambridge, passed away on Sunday, August 03, 2008 in Mallard Bay Care Center. She was 88. She was born in Sharptown on Feb. 27, 1920, the daughter of the late S. Clarence and Sadie Boston Glasgow. Mrs. Hurley graduated from Mardela High School in 1937. On Oct. 2, 1937 she married Austin Junius Hurley. He passed away on Nov. 5, 2005. She worked at DuPont, Trailways in Cambridge, managed the Point Restaurant and was Activity Director at the Eastern Shore Hospital Center where she retired in July of 1980. Mrs. Hurley loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed her flowers, painting and was very active at the First Baptist Church in Cambridge where she was a member. She is survived by a daughter, Terry A. Malkus and husband , Bill of Cambridge; a grandson, William Brent Malkus of Austin, Texas; a granddaughter, Lynn Malkus-Lyons and husband Lee of Trappe; great-granddaughter, Lyndsey Hope Lyons and a great-grandson William Brady Lyons; a brother, S. Charles Glasgow and wife Lily of Sharptown; a sister-in-law Elizabeth Glasgow of Mardela and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband she is preceded in death by four brothers and a sister Marion C. Glasgow, William Shelton Glasgow, Royce Glasgow, Jim Causey and Violet Glasgow. Pallbearers will be Mike Glasgow, Dean Tingle, Jack Seabrease, Ed Ayers, Lee Lyons and Rick Callahan. A funeral service will be 1 p.m. in the First Baptist Church in Cambridge with Rev. Jerry Wade, Rev. Randall T. Blackmon and Rev. Joan P. Evans officiating. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veteran's Cemetery near Hurlock. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 501 Glenburn Ave., Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the Immanuel United Church of Christ Building Fund, 5401 Whitehall Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
