CAMBRIDGE – Spring has sprung and Cambridge Main Street is organizing its annual Spring Fling gala, to be held April 25 from 6-11 p.m. at the Cambridge Yacht Club. The annual event is always a celebration of great music, awesome food and the mission of Cambridge Main Street to revitalize the downtown commercial district.

Spring Fling was held the last weekend of March in each of the last two years, but the decision was made to move it into the last week of April this year.

“We wanted to celebrate Spring, not just kick it off, so we thought it was best to move it to a date when it would feel more like the season,” said Cambridge Main Street Executive Director Brandon Hesson. “In late April, everyone will be awake from the cold dark winter and ready to have a good time. There was too much of a risk of things still being cold and dark in late March.”

Bobby and the Believers, a big band featuring horns and a wide array of dance and party music will provide entertainment. The band brings decades of experience and will have the ability to adjust to any type of crowd as the evening progresses.

Food will be provided by the Cambridge Yacht Club, including its award-winning crab balls, which won the Judges Choice award at the 2014 Taste of Cambridge Crab Cook-Off.

“We wanted to make an impact with the band, and Bobby and the Believers stood out. We’re very excited to bring them to town,” said Mr. Hesson. “We felt the Yacht Club provided us that picturesque waterfront view for people to enjoy, and we feel that the combination of this band in that venue will be a blast.”

An important part of the event will be the live and silent auctions held to raise money for Main Street programs throughout the year. In 2015, Cambridge Main Street has begun a partnership to bring a film festival to town and has begun the process of redesigning a new website, which is so important to attract tourism to our city. Hesson says that he would like to raise the funds necessary to restart the organizations award-wining Pop-Up project which earned the Best Business Development Project of the Year by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development in 2011.

“We have some amazing new ideas, but we also have some proven past ideas that we’d like to bring back to continue the economic development of our city,” said Mr. Hesson. “Ideas are only one part of the equation. These ideas also require resources and Spring Fling is our first major fundraiser of the year.”

Tickets for Spring Fling are $65, and includes heavy hors d’oeuvres, dinner, and a drink ticket to be used for wine or beer. Tickets can be purchased by contacting Cambridge Main Street at 443-477-0843, or by e-mail at office@cambridgemainstreet.com. They can also be purchased through Paypal at www.cambridgemainstreet.com.
