MADISON — The Office of the State Fire Marshal has reported that a home in Madison was destroyed by fire on Feb. 27. The house, two-story wood-frame single-family dwelling at 1306 Taylors Island Road, was reported to be ablaze at 7:10 p.m.

The house is owned by Michael Voll. Estimated loss to the structure was $220,000. Loss to contents was estimated at $50,000. Smoke alarms were present and activated.

The primary responding department was Madison Volunteer Fire Co. The two-alarm emergency eventually brought in 50 firefighters from area companies, who took one and a half hours to control the fire.

The preliminary cause is listed as accidental. The fire was discovered in the chimney the occupant. There have been no arrests.

The Neck District VFC reported that they were alerted at 7:22 p.m. for Tanker 31-1 to respond for a tanker task force. At 7:37 p.m., Engine 31-1 also responded.

“Stations responded from all over Dorchester as well as Talbot and Wicomico,” a report from the Neck District VFC said. “Responders were on scene several hours until the incident was placed under control and overhaul was complete.”

A report from Madison VFC listed stations responding to the first alarm as: Sta 56 (Madison), Sta 46 (Church Creek), Sta 66 (Taylors Island), Sta 1 (RFC -Cambridge), Sta 41 (Lakes and Straits) DCEMS PM 500 - The second alarm brought Sta 30 (Trappe), Sta 21 (East New Market), Sta 61 (Linkwood) Sta 16 (Secretary), Wicomico Sta 9 (Mardela Springs), Sta 26 (Eldorado- Brookview), DCEMS PM 101.

The Tanker Task Force was comprised of Sta 31 (Neck District), Sta 6 (Hurlock), Sta 11 (Vienna), Sta 51 (Hoppers Island).

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family for the loss of their home,” the statement from Neck District VFC said.
