CAMBRIDGE — The Mace’s Lane High School Class of 1956 celebrated its 60th Anniversary on June 11, at Kay’s at the Airport in Cambridge. Twenty-six classmates with their spouse, sibling or child enjoyed an afternoon of fellowship, tasty food and beautiful weather. A memorial ceremony for classmates, teachers and principal, Miss Edythe M. Jolley, was conducted by Oneda Jackson Jones and Randolph Montgomery. The class was honored by the presence of one of its teachers, Frances P. Edmonds Gaines and her husband. Charlotte Ennals Conyer, a classmate who could not be present, penned a poem, “Our Journey,” for the occasion. Medford Pinkett Jr. and Aretta Cornish Pinkett, the only classmates who married each other, received a certificate for having traveled the farthest distance. Shelby Cephas Fenwick and Harold Young Sr. received certificates for having the youngest grandchild, and Goldie Johnson Stanley and Kermit Travers received certificates for having the greatest number of great-grandchildren. Classmates, who correctly answered questions about their school days while traveling down “Memory Lane,” earned Grab Bag gifts. The celebration ended on a happy note with the singing of the school song, Orange and Blue. Members of the steering committee were Gladys C. Bynum, Vernon M. Conway, Edgar J. Harris Jr., Oneda J. Jones, Barbara E. Lake, Geraldine Kane Owens, Lucy Howard Phillips, Mary Lillian J. Pindell, Medford R. Pinkett Jr. and Gertrude Ponder Ringold.
