TANGIER, Va. - Mr. Lorie Quinn Pruitt, 80, husband of Carol Sue Pruitt and a resident of Tangier, Va., passed away on Friday, July 22, 2011, at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox, Va. Born on May 15, 1931, on Tangier Island, he was a son of the late Homer Pruitt and Blanche Wallace Pruitt. He was a tugboat captain, and had owned and operated a crab dredging boat. Mr. Pruitt was a member of Swain Memorial United Methodist Church, served his country in the United States Coast Guard Reserve as a third class boatswains mate, and was a 32nd Degree Mason. Other than his wife, survivors include four children, Robin Pruitt and husband Chuck of Tangier, Lorie Pruitt, Jr. and wife Cheryl of Newport News, Va., Kent Pruitt of Cape Charles, Va., and Maria Nichols and husband Tommy of Suffolk, Va.; six brothers and sisters, Freddie Pruitt and wife Betty of Onancock, Va., Barbara Thomas of Crisfield, Md., Wallace Pruitt and wife Shirley of Tangier, Glenwood Pruitt and wife Walta, Sharon Scott and husband Newman, and Sherry Smith, all of Onancock; four grandchildren, Jaclyn Allman and husband Greg, Mindy Wallace and husband David, Cameron Pruitt and Clare Nichols; a great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Allman; and several nieces and nephews. Other than his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Doran; a nephew, Wesley Smith; and a niece, Rose Ellen Keeley. Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home on Monday, July 25, 2011, at 2:30 p.m., with the Reverend Albert Lee Crockett officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Lawn Cemetery in Onancock. There will be a visitation at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
