Caravel Academy capped an undefeated regular season by downing Smyrna, 56-12, in wrestling on Saturday afternoon.
The Buccaneers finished their schedule with a 7-0 record and are expected to be the top seed in Division II when the DIAA dual-meet state tournament pairings are determined on Sunday.
Caravel beat four Henlopen North schools as well as Salesianum this winter.
Saturday was a busy day in wrestling with a number of teams competing in two matches to get them in before the state tourney committee meets. The dual-meet tournament, which wasn’t held last year because of the COVID pandemic, is slated to start on Wednesday night.
The semifinals and finals are slated for next Saturday at Smyrna High.
Salesianum 34, Sussex Central 32: Evan Broomall (132) won by major decision in the final individual match but it left the Golden Knights two points short in the non-conference loss.
The Sals took a 34-28 lead on a pin from Colin Honaker (126) in the previous match.

Cape Henlopen 55, St. Georges 20: The Vikings won 10 of the individual matches in the v
Joshua Wright (126) picked up Cape’s first pin in only 50 seconds. The Vikings’ other pins came from Joshua Alvares-Ramos (132), Andrew Schaen (138), Mikey Frederick (152), C.J. Fritchman (160) and Lucas Ruppert (285).
Cape Henlopen 46, William Penn 24: The Vikings won five of the individual bouts to put away the win.
Winning by pin for Cape Henlopen were Joshua Alvares-Ramos (132), Carson Kammerer (170) and Lucas Ruppert (285).
Sussex Tech 49, Sussex Academy 30: Jayce Harmon (220), Diego Santiago (285) and Isaac Soto-Perez (113) all posted first-period pins in three of the final four matches to close out the victory for the Ravens.
Also winning by fall for Sussex Tech were Hobe Givens (132), Ryan Cooper (145), Joseph Gappa (160) and Joesph Kane (170).
The Seahawks received pins from Colin Poulis (120) and Douglas Horton (152).
Sussex Tech 59, Delcastle 24: Diego Santiago (285) notched a 27-second pin while Noah Seymore (138) added a fall in 31 seconds to spark the Ravens’ first win of the day.
Sussex Tech’s other pins came from Ryan Cooper (152), Joesph Kane (182) and Isaac Soto-Perez (106).
Seaford 31, St. Mark’s 30: The Blue Jays edged the Spartans on criteria in the non-conference match.
Earning pins for Seaford were Anthony Andrews (106), Sean Martinez (152), Zachary Holmes (160) and Jarmari Dingle (170).
Boys’ basketball
Milford 48, St. Mark’s 43: The Buccaneers evened their record at 7-7 with the non-conference win.
Tower Hill 58, Caesar Rodney 40: The Hillers built a 42-23 lead going into the fourth quarter before topping the Riders.
Delmar 55, Delmarva Christian 50: The Wildcats improved to 9-2 after snapping a seven-game winning streak for the Royals (11-3).
Girls’ basketball
St. Elizabeth 55, Woodbridge 39: The Vikings used a 15-4, third-quarter run to take control in the non-conference contest.
College lacrosse
MEN, Delaware 19, NJIT 9: Clay Miller, Mike Robinson and J.P. Ward combined for 13 goals in the No. 16 Blue Hens’ season-opening win.
Robinson scored on all six of his shots and added three assists for Delaware, which jumped out to a 7-0 lead to start the contest. Ward finished with four goals with Miller adding three,
Nine players scored goals. Caesar Rodney High grad Demetrius Stevenson scored his first goal for the Hens, who are 5-0 against the Highlanders.
College basketball
Hens’ Dickey named to watch list: Delaware women’s basketball standout Jasmine Dickey has been named to the Dawn Staley Award Late Season watch list.
Dickey continues to add to her collection of accolades after being named to the Midseason Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award Watch List in January. She was also on the Cheryl Miller Award Watch List in the preseason on top of being named Colonial Athletic Association Preseason Player of the Year.
The Dawn Staley Award was established in 2013 to honor the nation’s best guard in Women’s Division I college basketball. The late-season watch list is comprised of 17 players.
On Friday night, Dickey netted a career-high 52 points with 18 rebounds in a win over Elon.
WOMEN, Norfolk State 102, Delaware State 36: The Spartans tallied 90 points in the first three quarters before downing the Hornets.
Unique Miller (14) and Breazia Robinson (10) led DelState (0-4 MEAC, 0-13 overall), who used only six players in the contest.
