CAMBRIDGE — Cambridge Little League will hold its annual Super Bowl Breakfast fundraiser and registration event on Sunday from 8 -11 a.m.
This year, the event will be held at the Elks Lodge #1272 at 5464 Elks Lodge Road in Cambridge. Adults will get an all-you-can-eat breakfast for $8, and children can eat for $5. League volunteers will make pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, scrapple, sausage and toast. There will also be an assortment of juices, coffee and tea.
In past years, the breakfast was held at the American Legion, which is still rebuilding after a fire damaged the building last summer.
“We’re very fortunate to have the support of community organizations like the American Legion and the Elks Club,” said Brandon Hesson, league president. “This league has been a part of the Cambridge community for generations, and we regularly talk to past players who are now registering their own children. Little League baseball and softball is part of growing up in this community.”
More than 100 local businesses will support the Little League breakfast with donations to the silent auction. This year, there are two sets of Maryland Terrapins basketball tickets, various gift baskets and gift cards. Cambridge Little League is fully self-funded through registration fees, concession stand revenue and the money raised from the Super Bowl Breakfast.
Cambridge Little League is a nonprofit, charitable organization offering opportunities to youth in the community to learn skills and have fun through baseball, softball and volunteerism. The league offers coach-pitch divisions in both baseball and softball for players starting at 6 years old, as well as other increasingly competitive divisions from Minor League (9-10 years old) Little League (11-12 years old) to Senior League (13-16 years old.)
Registration is $65 per child, and there are discounts available for siblings registering at the same time. A birth certificate copy is required for all players, and proof of residency is required for anyone playing as a 9-year-old and above. Examples of these types of residency documents can be found on the organization’s Facebook page, or at www.littleleague.org.
“This league is for everyone, held together by a dedicated group of volunteers,” said Hesson. “It doesn’t get done without a lot of effort, but some day our children will look back on the lessons learned and the opportunities provided by Cambridge Little League, and they’ll want to continue the tradition.”
Volunteer opportunities are flexible and include coaching, working on the playing fields or in the concession stand, and administrative duties. Umpires are also needed. Interested volunteers can contact Hesson at bghesson@gmail.com.
