CAMBRIGE — Senior Liam Hynes did something last year that most people probably don’t even know about. Liam started the Key Club for Cambridge-South Dorchester High School because he felt so strongly that the school needed to get involved with more community service. C-SD used to have a Key Club for a long time, but the club disbanded and Liam wanted to jump-start it again to carry on tradition.

Donna Landis of the Kiwanis Club wanted Liam nominated for both the Kiwanis Teenager of the Year and Key Club Leader of the Year. Liam competed against almost a 100 other students on the Eastern Shore and won both honors!

When asked why he believed he won, he responded, “For starting a Key Club at C-SD; most of the other candidates were President of their Key Club but never actually planned, organized and got a Key Club up and running.”

Liam acknowledges the assistance of English teacher, Mr. Howard, as well as Mr. Rice, and said he was a huge help and advised him along the way. C-SD’s Key Club became very popular with approximately 20 students involved. The club’s biggest projects were the Eagle Festival at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge and the Cambridge Main Street Organization.
