Leonard T. Flowers
CAMBRIDGE - Leonard Theodore Flowers, 98, originally of Hooper Island and formerly of Bonnie Brook in Cambridge, died on Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at Chesapeake Woods Center, Cambridge.
Born on July 31, 1908, at Hooper Island, he was the son of the late Charles H. Flowers and Everett V. Tyler Flowers.
Mr. Flowers was the husband of the late Cecilia E. Flowers who died in Aug. 31, 1996.
Mr. Flowers moved from the island to Baltimore. He returned to the island and in his later years had lived in Bonnie Brook. Mr. Flowers was a self-employed waterman and retired at the age of 75. He was a captain of a schooner that worked the Chesapeake Bay.
Surviving is his daughter, Mildred Cogelia of White Marsh; three grandchildren, William G. Sharpe and his wife, Sandy of Woolford, Susan Rose and her husband, Charles and Darlene Buzzard, both of Baltimore; six great-grandchildren, Jonathan Sharpe, Tammi Sharpe, Charles Rose, Ronnie Rose, Kim Sauer and Wendy Furrow; six great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews, Madeline Moore, James Flowers, Paula Baker, Rae Toms, Anna Flowers, Dottie Phippin, Nancy Peters, Charlotte Spedden, Phil Todd, Dot Davis, Rebecca Shockley, Mary Vee Phillips and Walter Yurek; and several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
Preceding him in death besides his parents and wife were two sisters, Fredia Flowers Todd, Martina Flowers Todd and four brothers, Vaughn Flowers, Napoleon Flowers, J. Pettus Flowers, Alfred Flowers; a niece, Joan Flowers Telea; two nephews, Leonard E. Flowers and James C. Todd.
Funeral services will be held at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A., on Saturday at 2 p.m. where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Delmer Willey. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park, Cambridge.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Rose, Chuck Rose, Charles Rose, Phillip Todd, Chuck Davis, Jon Sharpe, Ed Shockley and John Peters.
