Ashia Wright was C-SD’s top scorer, with 11, followed by JaZhana Butler and freshman Abby Robinson, both with 10. Wright also showed her versatility - one of the “bigs,” usually expected to dominate the boards with Butler, Ashia thrilled the crowd with some fancy ball handling. As C-SD jumped out to an 11-point lead in the first quarter, freshman Natalya Pritchett, Abby Robinson and Latisha Williams, up from JV, got extra playing time. The first half ended with a 23-11 Viking lead. Jamaya Conaway paced the Eagles’ offense with 12, and Nicole Waples added 10. The Eagles have been working hard to build a girls’ basketball program, and Coach Bernard Ward sees progress taking place. “We’re only losing Kayla,” he said. “She’s one of my founders.” Coach Ward was upbeat following the game, having seen his girls play hard to the final buzzer. “They’ll be alright,” said with a nod. “They’ll be alright.”
