CRISFIELD - Kenneth W. Sterling, Jr. passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017 at Easton Memorial Hospital.
Born in Crisfield on Sept. 10, 1941, he was a son of the late Kenneth Washington Sterling who passed away on Mar. 8, 2001 and Madeline Lucille Cullen Sterling who passed away on Feb. 2, 1989.
A lifelong resident of Crisfield, he graduated from Crisfield High School in 1959 and served in the National Guard. He was retired from Carvel Hall where he worked until it closed. He then worked at Bennett Security and most recently Somers Cove Marina.
Known to many as "Boardie" or "Ten Speed," he brought humor and laughter wherever he went. He was a dedicated sports enthusiast who coached little league and biddy league basketball, umpired little league and various tournaments, and was a fixture at the Shorebirds Stadium. He enjoyed running and cycling, and was a Ham Radio enthusiast, where all over the world he was best known as "N3SZJ." He loved feeding his birds and providing the most accurate weather forecasts on the shore as "Ken Cantore." He was a wonderful person and will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter, Lindsay Sterling and Brian Fox of Richmond, Va.; brother, Larry Sterling and Patsy E. Somers of Crisfield; nieces and nephews, Julia Sterling-Oh and husband Jinhwa, and their son Mason of Macon, Ga., Daniel Sterling and wife Caylin, and their daughter Grayce of Annapolis, Md., and Caroline Sterling and fiancé Erik Fox of Kirksville, Mo.; and several cousins.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kelly Sterling who passed away at birth.
Services were held on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home where friends called one hour prior to the service. Rev. Bob Daniels officiated. Interment followed in Asbury Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Crisfield Little League, c/o Benjamin Mills, 27250 Cash Corner Road, Crisfield, MD 21817.
Arrangements are in the care of Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home. To send condolences to the family please visit our website at www.bradshawandsonsfuneralhome.com
