CAMBRIDGE — On May, 20, the Kappa Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., fulfilled its annual commitment to the clean-up and beautification of Cornish Park in Cambridge.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the nation’s first sorority for college-trained African-American women, designated May 20, 2017 as 1908 Playground Mobilization Day in an effort to renew, refresh and revitalize community parks and playgrounds through the sorority’s Launching New Dimensions program initiative.

The purpose of this “Community Impact Day,” according to the sorority’s International President Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson, is to promote safe places for children to play.

This event was free and open to the community.

State Senator Addie Eckardt, a supporter of the chapter’s efforts, participated along with neighborhood children who enjoyed arts and craft activities. The City of Cambridge provided equipment and services and the Cambridge Elks Lodge provided snacks.

Kappa Theta Omega chapter’s next community event will be the 10th Annual Community Health Fair and School Supply Giveaway on Aug. 19 at Idlewild Park in Easton.
