HURLOCK - Joseph H. O"Brien, 83, passed away on Monday, Mach 26, 2007, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
He was born Feb. 23, 1924, in Baltimore, son of the late Bernard O"Brien and Elizabeth Brown O"Brien.
Mr. O"Brien served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following his retirement from Western Electric, he and Mrs. O"Brien moved to Hurlock.
Mr. O"Brien was a member of Hurlock American Legion Post 243 and also a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Secretary, where he spent many hours decorating the church for the holidays, taught religious education classes and trained altar servers.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine S. O"Brien of Hurlock; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers: Patrick John O"Brien, Bernard O"Brien, Charles O"Brien, Phillip O"Brien and Harle O"Brien; and two sisters, Agnes Cormann and Emma Phillips.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market, where a prayer service will be held at 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Secretary with the Rev. Anthony F. Greco will be the celebrant. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veterans" Cemetery at Beulah.
