DELMAR - John I. Morris Sr., "Papa Jack", 83, died Saturday, July 30, 2016, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford. Born in Willards, he was a son of the late Lee Morris and Ruth Penuel Morris Hastings. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Walker Morris, a son, Kevin Morris; and a brother, Robert Morris. He is survived by his children, Jack Morris and Garry Morris of Delmar, and Becky Barb of Mathias, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was a lifetime member with 51 years of service with the Delmar Fire Department, where he served as president, engineer, chief driver, and still active on numerous committees. He was also a member of the Wicomico County Fire Police Association and past president of the Wicomico County Fireman's Association, and a past member of the Sharptown Fire Department. He served in the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborne unit and retired from Henson Aviation. He was a member of Melson's United Methodist Church. A fireman's funeral was held on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016, at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Interment followed at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar.
