John Gordy Baker

SALISBURY -- John Gordy Baker, 91, of Salisbury, died Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Born in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Joshua and Fannie Baker. He is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Nellie V. Baker; daughter, Susan Baker Overbeck of The Woodlands, Texas; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren. He served as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army, serving during World War II as a B-17 pilot. He worked at Delmarva Power & Light Co. for over 43 years. He was a docent with the Ward Foundation, past president of the Salisbury Rotary Club, a Mason and an active member of Bethesda United Methodist Church, where he served as head usher for over 50 years. A funeral service was Monday, March 9, 2015, at Bethesda United Methodist Church. Interment followed in Wicomico Memorial Park. Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury.
