EAST NEW MARKET - John C. Rickwood Sr., known as Jack, passed away March 22, 2011, at his home at the age of 68. Jack was born to the late George and Mary Rickwood in Cambridge on Aug. 24, 1942. After graduating from North Dorchester High school in 1960, he worked at Acme Markets in Hurlock. At the age of 21, he drove his truck "Hard Times" for Todd Transport as an independent driver. After leaving the truck driving business, he worked for Crown Cork and Seal as a shop mechanic until retiring in 2002. Jack enjoyed the outdoor life; his favorite pastime was fishing and crabbing with his sons. He loved sitting on the porch watching the squirrels and birds. Another enjoyed activity was to take nature walks with his dog Marty. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, George A. Rickwood, Jr.; and a sister-in-law, Harriett (Cannon) Rickwood Wanex. Jack is survived by his wife of 47 years, Susan Moore Rickwood; his sons, John C. Rickwood, Jr. and wife Mandi of East New Market, Michael Rickwood and wife Jennifer of Preston, and Shannon Rickwood and wife Deneen of Preston; a nephew, George A. Rickwood II and wife Beverly of Dagsboro; grandchildren, John C. Rickwood III and wife Stacey, Jordon Rickwood, Miranda Rickwood, Abigail Rickwood, Gunnar Rickwood, Madelyn Rickwood, Rowan Rickwood, Colby Rickwood, and Preston Rickwood; and great-grandchildren, Mason Little, and John C. Rickwood IV. The family will receive visitors at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market on today, March 25, 2011, from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Rev. Dave Stewart will officiate. Burial will follow in East New Market Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be John C. Rickwood III, George A. Rickwood III, David Willis, Brian Willis, Robert Christopher, Michael Schwaninger, Kevin Schwaninger, and Chris Blake. Memorial donations may be made to East New Market Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 280, East New Market, MD 21631.
