SALISBURY - John A. Sports, 90, of Salisbury, died Tuesday, April 19, 2016, surrounded by his family at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. Born in South Carolina, he was the son of the late John A. and Maybelle Spring Sports. A U.S. Army veteran serving in the 101st Airborne "The Screaming Eagles," he was a production manager with Schmidt's Bakery. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Norma Sports; children, Daliah Sports, Jimmy Sports, John Sports, Patsy Smith, Michael Lewis and Wayne Sports; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Carrie Cole, Grace Sollenberger and Pearl Norton; and several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life was held Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Liberty Church of Christ in Salisbury. Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury.
