CORDOVA - Jesse Vane Voshell Jr., 73, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Memorial Hospital at Easton after a long illness. Family and friends were with him at the time of his passing.

Born on the family farm on Chapel Road, Cordova on Aug. 8, 1934, he was the son of the late Jesse V. and Dorothy Stinson Voshell.

Vane graduated from Cordova High School in 1952 and then farmed for several years prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1956. He served for three years in Heidelberg, Germany and Paris, France. During that time he learned to operate offset presses. He was honorably discharged in February 1959 and was employed by Economy Printing in Easton.

In June 1959 he flew to London, England and was married to Shirley Pound. They returned to Maryland, purchased a small farm, and continued to work for Economy Printing for 11 years. They then decided to open their own small business. In 1970 Voshell Printing was created and together they operated the family business for 26 years until it's closing in 2006 for health reasons.

Vane enjoyed fishing with family and friends, nature, and raising chickens for local processors. Much of his free time was spent working in his vegetable garden, cutting firewood, and playing with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife of nearly 49 years, Mr. Voshell is survived by a daughter, Debra Thomson and her husband, Barry; a son, Barry Voshell and his wife, Kimberly; two grandchildren, Karleigh and Tyler Voshell; three sisters, Anne Duff and her husband, Robert, Joan Daffin and her husband, Percy, and Peggy Dunlap; one brother, Lee Voshell and his wife Eleanor; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, at Fairview Church of The Brethren, Cordova. Friends may call on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Easton. Burial will be at Greenmount Cemetery, Hillsboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Talbot County Unit, P.O. Box 1306, Easton, MD 21601 or Fairview Church of The Brethren, 11243 Chapel Road, Cordova, MD 21625.
