Jerry Wayne Pike

SALISBURY - Jerry Wayne Pike died Sunday, April 1, 2018, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born in Des Moines, Iowa, he was the son of the late Walter Thornton Pike and Thelma Elizabeth Hol Pike. He began his career upon graduation from Drake University in Des Moines as a physicist with the U.S. Department of Defense. Over the course of his career, he worked on sonar systems, naval patrol boats, naval gun systems, radar systems and missile systems. He had several business interests, including Oceanx Inc. and Delmarva Synthetics. He was a member of Maryland Master Gardeners, Ducks Unlimited and the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Carolyn Sue Joyce of Atlantic, Iowa; his daughter, Shelly Rutherford of Pensacola, Fla.; his son, Travis Pike of Salisbury; and two granddaughters. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Gregory Scot Pike of Lorton, Va.
A memorial service was held Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Allen-Asbury United Methodist Church in Allen. Inurnment will be at a later date in Earlham, Iowa. Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury.
