Jerry F. Murphree

ALEXANDRIA, VA - Jerry F. Murphree, of Alexandria, Va., passed away Sunday, Dec 15, 2013, a few days short of his 93rd birthday. He was born in Evergreen, Ala. and grew up in Montgomery. He obtained an Amateur Radio License while in High School, and a few years later he worked on inspection of radar equipment for the U.S. Government. During World War II he entered the Army Signal Corps and was assigned to the 66th Signal Battalion. He worked radio intercept operations in Germany until the war ended in Europe, and he was then sent to Japan as part of the occupation force. He was discharged in 1946 and worked the rest of his career as an engineer in electronic communications for the U.S. Government Department of Defense. He met his wife Jean in the early 1950's and they were married in 1954 and had two children. Jerry Murphree is survived by his wife, Jean; son, Michael; daughter, Susan; and sons, Bruce and Ronald; their wives; and grandsons, Andrew and Matthew; and a brother, John Murphree. He will be buried at Dorchester Memorial Park. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
