CHUCH CREEK - James R. Brown, 87, passed away at the Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge on Monday April 7, 2008.
He was born at Taylors Island on May 11, 1920 and was a son of the late Thomas and Estelle Travers Brown.
Mr. Brown attended schools at Taylors Island. He had worked as a truck driver as well as a waterman for most of his life. Mr. Brown had made his home in Church Creek for most of his life.
Mr. Brown was first married to Tillie Turk. He was later married to the former Nancy Lutz Willey in 1984. She passed away on Feb. 10, 1998.
Mr. Brown was a member of the Dorchester County Waterman's Association.
He had been in failing health for the past four years and had been a resident at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge for the past four years and had been a patient at Dorchester General Hospital since Sunday night.
Survivors include two daughters, Jamie W. McGlaughlin and her husband, Randy McGlaughlin of Cambridge, and Tillie L. Pease and her husband, Art Pease of Annapolis; one son, Robert R. Brown and his wife, Kelly Brown of Mercersburg, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Stacie Dodson, Jennifer Pease, Kristen Hertzberger, Lisa Pease, Jonathon Brown, Christopher Brown, Hunter Brown and Carter Brown; five great-grandchildren, Danielle Dodson, Devin Dodson, Grayson Hertzberger, Madilynn Hertzberger and Kylie Pease and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Brown and Aline Shenton and three brothers, L. Travers Brown, Albert Brown and William Brown.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. A. Delmer Willey Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Old Trinity Churchyard. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service.
Pallbearers will be Will Brown, Duane Dodson, Jonathon Brown, Christopher Brown, Zach Hertzberger and Ralph Powell.
