EAST NEW MARKET - James Lake Church, 84, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 at his residence.

He was born in North Wilkesboro, N.C. on July 12, 1923 and was a son of the late James Franklin and Martha Yates Church.

Mr. Church attended school in the mountains of North Carolina. He went to ministerial schooling and received his license on April 6, 1958 and served four charges. Later, Mr. Church was owner-operator of Delmarva Bandag and retread shop in Cambridge. After retiring he then worked part-time with Cambridge Airport and received several certificates of recognitions from Exxon Aviation. He also design and constructed a tire for an antique fire engine that was on display in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC.

On Jan. 6, 1962 he married Anna Louise Marshall.

He sponsored a softball team the Delmarva Bandag. Mr. Church loved to camp, his home, family and scooter. He was a member of St. Paul UM Church in Cambridge where he taught Sunday school for 35 years, Richardson Bible Class, AARP and Good Sam Camping Club.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Louise Church of East New Market; five sons, Thomas Lester Lomax and wife, Linda of Seaford, James Kenneth Church and wife, Robin of Blades, Del., Terry Allan Church and wife, Yvonne of Cambridge, Daniel Mark Church and wife, Cheryl of Laurel, Del. and Timothy Paul Church and wife, Linda of Salisbury; 16 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mae Fleischman of Cambridge, Marie Cannon of Cambridge, Wilma Mason of Salisbury, Jane Elliott of Salisbury and Graces Owens of Salisbury; several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Mr. Church was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Yvette Church; a brother, Earl Church and a sister, Faye Phippin.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Fred Bahr and the Rev. J. Edward King officiating. Burial will follow at East New Market Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Lomax, Kenneth Church, Terry Church, Herman Stevens, Snaps Johnson, and Phil McKelvey.
