James Dryden Payne Sr.

James Dryden Payne Sr., 74 RHODESDALE, Md. - James Dryden Payne Sr., of Rhodesdale, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2010, at Envoy Health Care in Denton, Md. He was 74. He was born Feb. 15, 1936, in Eldorado, Md., the son of the late Minnie Brinsfield Payne and Gilbert Payne, Sr. He was a graduate of Hurlock High School Class of 1954 where he was known for his athletic ability. He was a grain, poultry and truck farmer, and was an avid hunter and sports enthusiast. He was a past member of the former Eldorado United Methodist Church, and had been a member of the Dorchester County Farm Bureau. He is survived by two children, James D. Payne, Jr. and his wife Donna of Rhodesdale, and Jennifer Payne Morton and her husband Brett of East New Market; five grandchildren, Jessica Payne, Ashley Payne, Colin Payne, Brooke Morton and Jake Morton; a brother, Charles Everett Payne and his wife Charlotte, of Cambridge; a sister, Hester Marquardt of Seaford, Del.; former wife, Elois Payne of East New Market; special friend, Kay Hoffman; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Donald Payne, Gilbert Payne, Jr., Rayford Payne, Manship Payne, and William Payne. Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 3, 2010, at the Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg with Rev. Delmer Willey officiating. Cremation followed and inurnment was private.
