EAST NEW MARKET - James D. Collison, 88, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at Memorial Hospital at Easton.

He was born in Brookview on Jan. 4, 1920 and was a son of the late Dawson and Ruby Rhodes Collison.

Mr. Collison attended schools in Dorchester County. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1943 to 1946 in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant, receiving the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon.

On Nov. 30, 1946 he married the former Helen Harris who passed away on Feb. 1, 1977. He later married the former Myrtle Brown on March 22, 1979 and she passed away on Dec. 27, 2000.

He worked for 33 years at the Eastern Shore Hospital Center. He retired in 1979.

Some of his hobbies were cutting grass, having a vegetable garden and loved watching old western shows. He was a member of the Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW and the American Legion Post 91.

He is survived by two daughters, Linda C. Robinson and husband, Harold and Debra A. Collison, both of Cambridge; a son, James R. Collison and wife, Debbie of Cambridge; two grandchildren, Christopher Robinson and Cherie Messick; three sisters, Kathleen Shanahan of Cabin Creek, Jean Dew of Federalsburg and Bessie Franz of Cambridge and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and his wives, Mr. Collison was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Nichols and a brother, Paul Collison.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with the Rev. Richard Prahl officiating. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery near Hurlock. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Harold Robinson, Chris Robinson, Ricky Collison, Terry Messick, Walter Lee Travers Jr. and Carroll Lee Scott.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Church of the Nazarene, 97 Sandy Hill Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
