CAMBRIDGE — It’s the time of year to be particularly thankful for blessings and Maple Elementary School has a huge blessing in Jack Diehl. Mr. Jack, Dorchester County Public Schools’ Volunteer of the Month for November, is not only a lively bus greeter and Character Coach for the school’s 1st graders but an effective recruiter of other volunteers thanks to his exuberance and heart full of love for Maple and its school family.
Maple’s Principal, Dr. Jodi Colman, said, “Mr. Jack has touched almost every student at Maple Elementary School. He greets students as they enter the school with a high five, fist bump, and/or hug helping them to know that they are loved. Mr. Jack is also the Character Counts Coach for the 1st grade students. His unique stories and his enthusiastic spirit have helped students to learn how to make good decisions and be good citizens. The students look forward to his visits and often ask when he will be back.
“Mr. Jack is not only a support to the students but also the staff. He listens, counsels, cries, and laughs with the staff. We look forward to his visits and consider him part of our staff. He is truly a blessing to Maple Elementary School!”
Dorchester County Public Schools are thankful for Mr. Jack and all community volunteers who contribute so much to local schools and children. To be part of it, contact Valerie Goff, community involvement liaison, at goffv@dcpsmd.org or call 410-228-4747 x1008.
