WETIPQUIN - Ira Polk, Jr., died Wednesday, Mar. 8, 2017, at Coastal Hospice At The Lake In Salisbury, surrounded by his family. Born in Eden, he was the son of the late Ira Polk Sr and Bessie Armwood. He received his formal education in the public schools of Somerset County. He was self-employed until his sickness made it so he was unable to work. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John Henry, David C., and Bobby Polk; and a grandson. He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane Polk; three children, Chanelle Farrare, Wayland Mitchell and Susie Walters; three sisters, Sarah, Bernice and Christine Polk; three brothers, Nelson, Elmer and Clyde Polk; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Mar. 18, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church, Wetipquin Road, Quantico. A visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Arrangements are in the care of Stewart Funeral Home by Holloway and Downey in Salisbury.
