CAMBRIDGE — Dorchester Center for the Arts will offer a curated selection of in-person classes and workshops for winter, keeping safety at the forefront with reduced class sizes and mask and distancing requirements. Visit DCA online for complete program catalog.
January: “Fun and Funky Furniture with Terri Griffin”. Two-day Workshop Jan. 15 (4–8 p.m.) and Jan. 16 (12–6 p.m.) This workshop will teach the art of up-cycling furniture. Through the magic of ideas, paint, glue and other materials a shabby old piece of furniture will transform into a one-of-a-kind piece of art. Students will learn how to decoupage and embellish the piece using a variety of items, then seal with polyurethane so the piece will last a lifetime.
Students should bring a small piece of furniture, all other supplies will be provided. Ideas for a piece to decorate include an end table, small cabinet, or a small chair. Participants will take home their completed piece of furniture as well as an instructional printout of the process for future reference. Class Cost - $125 DCA members, $160 non-members. A second session will be offered in the Spring: April 2 (4–8 p.m.) and April 3 (12–6 p.m.)
February: “Paint Pour Fundamentals with Pattie Logan”. One-day Workshop Feb. 6 (1–4 p.m.) In this workshop, students will explore acrylic pour painting, a type of fluid art that utilizes motion and contrast to create abstract color paintings. There are endless creative possibilities thanks to the different ways to combine acrylic paints, and there is something so satisfying about watching it spill across a surface! The process uses a pouring medium that not only helps keep the colors separate, but also makes the paint flow more easily and prevents cracking when it dries. Come explore this fascinating painting process! Class Cost - $60 DCA members, $90 non-members.
