CAMBRIDGE – Marking Hyatt Corporation’s fifth anniversary of its month of global community service, Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay is giving back to the local community by volunteering to help The Judy Center, a public school located in Cambridge. The Cambridge resort has participated in community projects for the benefit of Dorchester County, for the past 13 years. This month, Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay staff members are donating new or gently used books to The Judy Center and its school students, who range in age from 3 to 12 years old. The donation is part of a month-long effort to improve the local communities around the world that Hyatt calls home. MD-hyatt gives to judy center-kids 2x Holly Gilpin, HR Director at the Hyatt, explained: “We have a partnership with the Judy Center, they come to the hotel every month and do a reading, and they make a craft, all to promote literacy in the county. April is Thrive Month for all of Hyatt International. So every Hyatt picks a project for the month, and we decided to expand our literacy in the county by giving to the Judy Center. We contacted the Literacy League as well as the Dorchester County library. Our employees got involved, and also people in the community (because we had it on Facebook as well).” Holly and her team collected 606 books, separated them according to boys or girls books, and presented a collection of them to each of the kids at the Judy Center, in their own little book bag. “We wanted to make sure the kids had home libraries that they can grow into,” Ms. Gilpin told us. Every April, Hyatt Corporation operates its month of global community service, which is a key tenant of Hyatt Thrive, the company’s corporate responsibility platform that aims to help communities thrive by focusing on four key areas: environmental sustainability, economic development and investment, education and personal advancement, and health and wellness. “We are dedicated to the Dorchester community and our colleagues are honored to be a part of this very special month when the entire Hyatt family rallies together to make a greater impact,” said Randy Thompson general manager of Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay. “Hyatt Thrive is a natural extension of the work we do every single day – our service extends beyond our hotel walls and into our community, and we are thrilled to be able to help make a difference in our neighborhood – not just in April, but every day of the year.”
