HURLOCK — The Hurlock Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary supports a local group whose mission is to have a wreath on every grave for the 2nd year. Lynn Riley came in spoke with the Hurlock Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary initially in 2018.
The total donated in 2018 was $825. That will sponsor 55 wreaths, with 27 free from Wreaths Across America, making the total 82 wreaths. The 2019 goal was to beat the 2018 donation. Beulah is the only Veterans’ Cemetery on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
The wreaths are $15 each. For every two sponsored by a local individual or business, Wreaths Across America will provide one free. Ms. Riley said her group is looking for enough donations to sponsor 5,000 wreaths. With the additional 2,500 free wreaths, there will be enough to cover all 7,200 graves in the cemetery.
The Auxiliary decided to donate all the proceeds from the July Family Bingo to the cause. The total donated Aug. 19, was $1,527. That will sponsor 101 wreaths, with 50 free from Wreaths Across America, making the total 151 wreaths, surpassing the 2018 total by 62 wreaths.
Donations will be collected through Nov. 15. Anyone interested in making a donation may do so online at www.wreathsacrossamerica.org.
Enter group ID number #MD0359 or location ID number MDESVH to make sure the donation goes toward the purchase of wreaths for the Eastern Shore Veterans’ Cemetery.
Donations may also be made by check, written out to Wreaths Across America TM, and mailed to Lynn Riley at 206 Thompson St., Hurlock, MD 21643.
