“Thank you Mayor and Council for the opportunity to serve the Town of Hurlock,” Chief Hutton wrote online. “I enjoyed every moment. I’d also like to thank John Avery, town manager. Hurlock is the best kept secret in the county. I will miss everyone.”

The news prompted an outpouring of sentiment from Chief Hutton’s friends and admirers, who posted their comments in reply.

“Thank you, chief for your service and dedication to the citizens of Hurlock,” Councilman Charles Cummings (District 1) said. “You built a foundation of strong core values within the department that will last years! I personally thank you for your hard work. Enjoy your retirement.”

Russell Murphy represents District 3 on the Hurlock Town Council. He said, “Thank you, chief, for all your hard work and dedication and the example for everyone to follow. You will certainly be missed. I hope that you will take the time and enjoy your retirement and embrace it…Good luck, sir, and best wishes.”
