CAMBRIDGE – The Vikings’ record fell to 3-3 on the season Friday, when Cambridge-South Dorchester High School hosted Wicomico. The Indians improved to 4-2 following the 42-7 win in Cambridge.
The opening drives of the game showed promise for C-SD, with quarterback Talan Middleton completing a 45-yard pass down the left sideline to receiver Anthony Hughes. The drive ended, however, with a missed field goal, leaving the tally a scoreless tie at the end of the first quarter.
Just seconds into the second period, sturdy running back Jaden Ferguson scored from inside the 1-yard line. Following a successful extra point, their last score of the game, the Vikings led 7-0.
It was all WiHi after that, as the Indians’ potent attack – they have scored 217 points this season, allowing just 62 – led them to the end zone on three consecutive drives in the second quarter.
As the first half drew to a close, Middleton was hurt on a tackle, as he helped to stop an interception return. The pick, returned to C-SD’s 12-yard line, resulted in the visitors’ fourth touchdown.
The second half opened at 28-7, and Darren Belizaire behind center at quarterback, with Middleton out for the rest of the game.
The Indians added two more touchdowns in the third quarter, reaching the game’s final tally of 42-7.
C-SD still leads the Bayside 1A, at 2-0 in the division. On Friday, the Vikings will be in Princess Anne, where they will meet Washington High School.
The Jaguars will enter the game with a record of 0-5, having allowed 170 points and not having scored yet this season.
